Sandgate School 2018 Adult Mentoring Programme
My name is Daniel and I am blogging here for the charity for the first time. I am working with Kim and Joe at Sandgate school. I work with Joe as part of an adult mentoring programme. Each session is started with an induction to health and safety of the site. Plus a quick tutorial from Kim on the mornings tasks. I also assist Joe and help him out with his jobs. Joe is doing well gaining some independent by getting to and from the school by train. Joe is doing well with the tasks he is given. Tasks have included weeding and tidying the ground plus pruning the hedge rows at the school. Me and Joe have both been given the same task.
Joe told me he enjoys working at Sandgate. He enjoys getting the train and dealing with different train times. He enjoys listening to Kim’s knowledge.
Grants and Donations
We are thrilled to have received a donation from St James Place Charitable Foundation. Thanks to Amanda Butterfield from Sherlock Financial Management who presented the cheque to Daniel, a member of the management committee, in our Lupton Room.
We have also received a donation from Lakes Leisure to support our local hospital and garden projects here in Kendal. We have been planting up the area ready for the Kendal in Bloom local competition with a theme WW1 and RAF 100 years celebrations. We have planted RED White and Blue flowers in the shape of the RAF emblem.
As part of the adult mentoring project I am enjoying spending time with Hannah and Daniel in our office environment.
Hannah is having success in creative writing skills with fundraising, doing some research questionnaires and working together with me on applications.
Daniel has something to celebrate as he has been learning new skills in the office environment, learning digital scanning techniques and has successfully gained a PT job, with thanks for the partnership work through the MIND charity , Piciscan and Web By Numbers businesses.
Stramongate School Update
Ali has been volunteering his time making RAF plane planters to celebrate the WW1 and RAF 100 year celebrations for Kendal in Bloom.
Our charity has challenged the school children to get involved and create their own planes during half term to make a display in the school grounds. So watch this space!
