Venues

In general, we work and develop under used areas within the community to assist organisations make better use of them encouraging others to use and learn from the space. We provide a service to others that gives our volunteers and service users the opportunity to develop new skills, put existing skills back into action and work together as a team.

Stramongate School - 2011-Present

We created, and assist in the ongoing maintenance and development of the allotment, pond, fruit and flower area comprising of twelve raised vegetable beds. We provide informal lessons for the children some of whom are disadvantaged on healthy eating and living. We harvest the vegetables and turn the produce into soup at a parent and child celebration event. We have run piloted parent and child holiday workshops alongside youth and adult volunteers to assist maintain the area over the school holiday period.

Stramongate Nursery School - 2013-Present

We support the school with advice and fun sessions for the children in healthy living and healthy eating. We have provided pond dipping sessions and walk around the allotment and fruit areas.

Sandgate Primary School - 2016-Present

Our volunteers have used their skills and worked together as a team to supporting the school developing the sensory garden and potting shed area. Youth and adult volunteers assist maintain the area over the school holiday period. A mentoring programme for our volunteers to become more independent is available on this site.

Sandgate Senior School - 2014-Present

As part of our mentoring programme, pupils with severe learning needs from Sandgate Senior School visit our community garden at the Westmorland General Hospital site. They spend time in the garden following instructions, communicating with the team and participating in the grounds work.

Westmorland General Hospital - 2013-Present

We developed and maintain a large inner courtyard for staff, patients and visitors enjoy, comprising of 15 raised beds for vegetables, herbs, fruit and flower areas as a base site for our charity. There are volunteering opportunities for youth and adults where we teach and develop the team’s skills to assist in maintaining the courtyard and prepare the volunteers ready to provide support for the school sites in the holiday period. We support the hospital with a monthly litter pick of the site and on occasions assist other areas with general garden maintenance. The wards and departments can sponsor an area to use to grow their own, enjoy the peace and ambience of the area.

St Marks Primary School - 2013-Present

We developed and help to maintain the Hidden Haven Area comprising of six raised vegetable beds, a fruit cage and flower areas. We provide informal lessons for the children some of whom are disadvantaged on healthy eating and living. We harvest the vegetables for a service at Natland church and provide soup with the produce celebrating Harvest festival week. We have run piloted parent and child holiday workshops alongside youth and adult volunteers to assist maintain the area over the school holiday period.

St Marks Church - 2014-Present

Each year the Rev Angela Whittaker celebrates a harvest festival including the produce grown through our charity at St Mark’s School in Natland. The pupils harvest their home grown produce and display it in church. Later on the same day the produce is turned into soup at St Mark’s School for pupils and adults.

Chestnut Allotment - 2012-Present

These are spaces for all our staff and volunteers to visit, work and enjoy some independence in the community.  We assist maintain areas on the allotments as well as grow our own produce. We are teaching skills and encouraging healthy living by being outside supporting and enjoying the environment and healthy eating by growing our own fruit and vegetables.

Ghyllside Primary School - 2014-Present

We created, and assist with the maintenance and development of the allotment, fruit and wild flower area comprising of 6 raised vegetable beds a compost area and working space for children. We provide informal lessons for the children, some of whom are disadvantaged, on healthy eating and living. We have run piloted parent and child holiday workshops alongside youth and adult volunteers to assist maintain the area over the school holiday period.

Private Homes and Other Venues - 2013-Present

We have supported our service users in the local community to assist with the gardens of private homes, a national trust house and farms of the disabled and elderly owners. The volunteers take more of an active role planning and preparing the tasks as they prepare further for independence develop their skills and working better together as a team. We use some of these areas for our mentoring programme where our service users team up with professionals to have a better sense of the working environment.

Queen Katherine Community Garden - 2012-2015

We assisted with the development of a space for staff, volunteers and service users, young people and adults to work together on a community school site. An area for learning from the environment for all involved in all seasons and weathers. We ran a holiday garden club onsite for children from the local community where also youth and adult volunteers assist maintain the area over the school holidays.

Castle Park Primary School - 2014-2015

We have developed the wild flower and tree area providing a walk through for children of all ages to enjoy. We also assisted to maintain their allotment area and made mosaic tablets for the children to find in orienteering lessons.

Beck Community Centre - 2014

Our youth and adult volunteering team provide support and maintenance in the garden and outside spaces developing their new skills and working together as a team.

Heron Hill Care Home - 2014-2015

Our youth and adult volunteering team provided support and maintenance in the garden and outside spaces developing their new skills and working together as a team.

St Thomas's Primary School - 2013-2015

We helped to develop and maintain an allotment area comprising of six raised beds for vegetables. We provided seed to soup sessions harvesting the vegetables for soup in some afterschool sessions. Youth and adult volunteers assist with the maintenance the area over the school holiday period.

Staveley Primary School - 2013-2014

Our volunteers have used their skills and worked together as a team to supporting the school developing the sensory garden and potting shed area. Youth and adult volunteers assist with the maintainence of the area over the school holiday period.
