Disability Awareness - Creative Media
We facilitate disability awareness events supporting children and young people including those who are disadvantaged and with disabilities.
We produce and edit personal and social DVDs, assisting and supporting them to share their story.
Numerous workshops/sessions have been facilitated for Sight Advice South Lakes, and in partnership with BBC Children In Need, which have covered aspects of trust, communication and transition through the use of drama, art, discussion and movie making with the help of David Sjorup.
From 2010 David’s experience has been in short and feature films with low budgets, working with other local production companies all ranging from Barrow to Kendal. His new venture with Chestnut Events is an exciting program for David who’s not only keen to work with new people but also add documentary films to his itinerary. “From my short experience with those involved at Sight Advice and Chestnut Events, I can already see their ambition, to help those in their fields, and I look forward to capturing their enthusiasm over the projects we have planned ahead”.
We work with graphical and media students, such as Rosanna, to help our young people design and visualise their DVD front covers and content. A selection of our DVD's are available to view online upon request. Please contact us for more information.
Here's some of the youth team that we have helped with raising awareness of their different conditions, and worked with them to produce informative DVDs:
We have been privileged to work alongside some amazing young people and organisations to make the DVD’s raising awareness of their individual’s stories.
We have worked with children and young people filming at:

Some Comments from pupils and parent involved
“It’s a chance for me to film and talk about myself in my style saying about my abilities and what support I need. “
“Making the dvd’s gives me a chance to take it to my new secondary school to show my new teachers direct how my disability affects me. “
“As a parent with a child with numerous different aspects of abilities the dvd can be passed round to a few teachers directly having more of an impact than a huge folder of text!”
